Referees

Granite Bay FC has a robust Referee Training Program.  Referees age 13 and up can become certified through local training programs each year.  Our Referee Development program involves a thoughtful strategy of pairing new referees with more experienced ones as they gain confidence.  We also are careful to schedule new, young referees for matches that are for teams that are several years younger than the new referee.  This careful planning is designed to allow young referees time to gain experience and confidence in a managed environment suitable to their stage of development.

For more information on becoming a certified referee, please contact our Referee Director Matthew Hamedian.

2024 Upcoming Courses

There are currently no available courses, but you can email our Referee Director Matthew Hamedian for details on how to become certified.

Requirements / Process to Become a New Referee

For referee apparel and kits, there are two recommended options:

  • Official Sports – Recommend for more official kits, required if you plan to eventually work high level games.
  • Amazon – Recommended for a lower cost option, great for entry level referees.

We recommend having at least 2 color options for jerseys.  Yellow is typically the first option, but having a blue, red, or green alternative can be helpful.

U6-U8 Game Facilitators

GBFC is looking for youth referee facilitators for U6-U8 4v4 games. You will be able to choose your availability as to not interfere with your own games or social plans. You will be paid $15/game. We advise working with a friend. You will each take a field as two 4v4 games are happening amongst the same two teams simultaneously. Minimum age is 12-13, but youth must be able to take charge, be assertive and mature enough to take on this role. All you’ll need is a whistle and there will be a quick training as well! If you are interested, please fill out the form below!
